SUMMARY:Concert: "Arquitecturas musicales en la Edad de Plata. Velázquez Bosco y la fascinación andalusí"
DESCRIPTION:As a tribute to the figure of Velázquez Bosco and the music that was heard in the Madrid of his time\, the festival «Sound Retreat. Piano\, jazz and varietés in the Madrid of Velázquez Bosco” offers a series of open-air concerts in a unique setting: the complex of the Velázquez Palace\, the Crystal Palace and the Retiro Park pond\, an outstanding work of the architect Velázquez Bosco. \nWithout a doubt\, the last decades of the 19th century and the first of the 20th century constituted a time of flourishing in Spanish music in many of its facets. One of the most outstanding was related to the universe of the piano\, which reached its maximum mechanical development and instrumental splendor during nineteenth-century Romanticism. More than an instrument\, the piano became a symbol and indicator of socioeconomic status: it represented a fundamental piece that organized family and social leisure in the living rooms of the wealthy classes. Before the arrival of the gramophone and the radio\, the piano was the domestic musical medium par excellence. The composers of Spanish musical nationalism will dedicate many of their creations to him: Granados\, Albéniz\, Turina\, Falla and many others. As will happen in other artistic disciplines\, this generation of composers will draw widely from the sources of folklore\, nourishing its currents of picturesqueness\, its fascination with Andalusia and – in parallel with Ricardo Velázquez Bosco’s interest in Andalusian architecture – its harmonies. and melodies of Spanish-Arabic inspiration. \nPaula Coronas\, piano and comments. \nOCTOBER 6 PROGRAM \nIsaac Albéniz (1860-1909)\nRecuerdos de viaje op. 71\nIV.
