The Illustrious Official College of Physicians of Madrid (ICOMEM) is the new institution invited to the Interpretation Center of the Landscape of Light, the space of the Culture, Tourism and Sports Area of ​​the Madrid City Council located in the CentroCentro Operations Courtyard, which brings together all the information about the values ​​that have made this unique cultural landscape become part of the UNESCO World Heritage list.

Every six months one of the entities located in the Paisaje de la Luz, as a guest institution, donates some of the pieces from its collection, in order to better publicize the great value they hold. The Illustrious Official College of Physicians of Madrid has taken over this week from the Royal Botanical Garden, and over the next few months it will bring the world of science through Medicine to the public. An exhibition that coincides with this year’s commemoration of the 125 years of this institution and in which ICOMEM wants to make Madrid residents aware of the heritage it treasures and which still remains a great unknown.

Building of Cultural Interest

The creation of the Royal College of Surgery of Madrid took place in 1780, during the reign of Charles III and it operated until the 1950s as a Faculty of Medicine. In 1980, the Ministry of Culture gave part of the building, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest, to the Illustrious Official College of Physicians of Madrid.

The Landscape of Light Interpretation Center has received more than 70,000 visits since its inauguration last December. Opening hours are from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., from Tuesday to Sunday and it is located in the Patio de Operaciones of the Cibeles Palace, in CentroCentro, with access from Plaza de Cibeles.
