Ahuehuete or bald cypress

Taxodium mucronatum (El Parterre, in Parque del Retiro)

A large, evergreen or semi-evergreen tree, with linear, deciduous leaves, which are shed attached to the branchlets and arranged on two planes, with ovoid cones measuring 12 to 15 millimetres long. This specimen ramifies almost from the base in numerous, thick ascending branches, which give it a candelabrum shape. It reaches a height of twenty-five metres with a crown diameter of twenty-four metres and a trunk perimeter of five and a half metres. It is estimated to be approximately three hundred and sixty years old.
