Blue eucalyptus

Eucalyptus globulus (Parque del Retiro)

This is an aromatic tree measuring up to twenty-five metres high, with a straight trunk. The leaves of the older branches are narrowly lanceolate, often curved, arranged alternately and hanging vertically. They are shiny, dark green in colour, thick and leathery. The white flowers are solitary in the axils on flattened stems. They are between approximately four and a half and five centimetres wide. The flower has many stamens. The ovary has four lobes with many ovules. Flowers are most abundant from December to May. The trunk measures four metres ten centimetres and the diameter of the crown twenty metres.
