Fortune palm

Trachycarpus fortune (Parque del Retiro)

A palm tree that can reach up to twelve metres high, with a sturdy, fibrous trunk. It has leaves with fan-shaped blades measuring between six and eight centimetres in length, divided into numerous stiff segments, with a rigid petiole serrated at the edges. The small yellow flowers grow in hanging clusters, and produce small, spherical fruits with a bluish-black colour. This specimen is eleven metres high with a crown diameter of two and a half metres.
