Paseo de las Estatuas

Jardines del Buen Retiro

Although its official name is Paseo de la Argentina, its popular name refers to the different statues flanking it, which come from the cornice of the Royal Palace of Madrid, in accordance with the plans of the architect Juan Bautista Sacchetti. Coming from their first location on the public street, the Puente de Toledo roundabout, these twelve statues are mounted on simple granite pedestals. They are the seated effigies of Fernando IV, Enrique II, García I, Urraca I, Berenguela I, Sancho IV, Alfonso I of Aragón, Suintila, Ramón Berenguer IV, Carlos I, Carlos II and Gundemaro.
